RF Microneedling vs. Traditional Microneedling
Traditional microneedling has become increasingly popular as a treatment for skin issues. Microneedling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy) is a skin rejuvenation treatment that is minimally invasive and can dramatically improve the skin with little pain and no downtime.
Now however, an innovative treatment has resulted from combining microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy, dramatically enhancing the results of traditional microneedling.
This is a comparison of traditional microneedling and RF microneedling:
TRADITIONAL MICRONEEDLING
A device instrumented with technological features, such as many small needles, tips, or pins on the surface is rolled over the skin to create controlled micro injuries to the skin n the form of tiny microscopic punctures, stimulating the skin’s natural healing process resulting in the production of elastin and collagen which are skin-firming proteins. Growth factors develop and work to tighten skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, acne scarring, sun damage, and also thicken the skin. The micro punctures can also act as channels for enhanced delivery of topical skin care treatments like hyaluronic acid.
While traditional microneedling provides extremely positive results after only a few treatments, adding the power of radiofrequency energy (RF) reduces the time it takes to see great visible results, providing quicker, longer-lasting results. These results are more visible and much more dramatic results over a shorter period of time. Accordingly, the results from RF microneedling are much faster and more effective at:
minimizing wrinkles
tightening sagging skin
smoothing out acne scar
treating the deeper layers of skin
customization to patient’s skin
RADIOFREQUENCY (RF) MICRONEEDLING
RF Microneedling combines traditional microneedling with radio frequency (RF) energy to increase stimulation of growth factors. “Energized” RF microneedling needles create micro-punctures into the skin, while delivering RF energy through the micro punctures in the skin. RF energy heats the deep underlayers of the skin which enhances skin tightening. Adding RF energy into the dermis deeper amplifies and improves the production of proteins and enzymes like collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid compared to traditional microneedling.
RF microneedling provides an extra boost of radiofrequency energy into the already extremely productive and stimulating microneedling procedure. The RF energy is inserted through the micro needles to further enhance skin tightening, wrinkle reduction and scar minimizing. Not only can the level and amount of radiofrequency energy be converted into heat energy, it can be adjusted to suit certain skin conditions or certain areas of the body. The depth of application is also adjusted to reach deeper and base layers of the dermis. The heat stimulates further production of collagen and some doctors suggest it is the only way to make the positive effects last.
Traditional microneedling generally requires more procedures in order to reach the results RF microneedling offers. However, substantial improvement is still possible with traditional microneedling. Traditional microneedling is a great option for easier, more comfortable – slower and more subtle rejuvenation. If you prefer quicker and improved results, RF microneedling is the recommended treatment for enhancing the overall tone and texture of skin as it is more effective in facilitating the production of collagen and elastin.
THE BOTTOM LINE…
Both traditional and RF microneedling make use of collagen induction therapy by piercing the skin, creating micro-wounds. Microneedling triggers your skin’s collagen production, drastically improves conditions that are texture and appearance related. Both procedures are appropriate for all skin tones and types, as it delivers heat below the skin’s surface. Accordingly, the pigment is protected which makes this procedure safe for darker skin types (which is not possible with CO2 laser resurfacing). While traditional microneedling stops there, RF microneedling is an enhanced and more advanced version of the traditional method.
RF Microneedling Reaches Deeper Layers of Skin
As RF energy is delivered past the tip of each of the micro needles, it is possible to reach deeper layers of skin, stimulating collagen production, tightening the skin at a deeper level. All of this is possible – without causing damage to the top layers of the skin.
RF Microneedling is More Effective in Smoothing Wrinkles
While traditional microneedling is effective, RF microneedling amplifies the process. Boosting collagen levels is key for reducing wrinkles. The heat created by the added RF energy works to constrict underlying skin layers, further smoothing out even the most severe lines and wrinkles.
RF Microneedling is More Effective for Minimizing Acne Scars
Scars are patches of tough, thick and damaged skin. The added higher levels of RF energy focused on scarred skin helps to break up scar tissue.
RF Microneedling is Customizable and Versitile
Both needle depth and RF energy intensity can be customized in order to meet the unique needs of each patient. RF microneedling serves as a minor skin enhancing treatment to a very deep and dramatic skin changing procedure. The RF microneedling device allows the clinician to precisely adjust for different factors in the needed treatment. Adjustments include the depth of penetration addressing deep-rooted concerns for more targeted treatment and can also be used on virtually any area of the body. RF microneedling addresses a wider array of concerns, including wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, aging signs, visible pores, mild skin laxity, and stretch marks.
ADDED BONUSES of RF MICRONEEDLING
FEWER TREATMENT SESSIONS
Because of the added benefits of RF microneedling, the treatment is more potent than traditional microneedling. Adding radiofrequency energy to the microneedling procedure will result in faster and better results, after fewer sessions.
LESS DOWNTIME
Microneedling can cause unwanted damage to the surface of the skin, requiring more attention and effort toward recovery following treatment. Because RF microneedling is focused on radiofrequency energy as treatment, it is much less invasive, much gentler on the skin, and requires virtually no downtime.
BETTER RESULTS
Due to the added boost of radiofrequency energy, RF microneedling produces superior results. It is simply much more effective at stimulating new collagen and elastin production as well as that of existing collagen – tightening the skin and reducing a wide variety of skin concerns.
The Sylfirm X RF Microneedling skin treatment is available at both Meridian Idaho and Twin Falls Idaho locations.
